Technology has changed the way we interact, and sometimes it makes it harder for our students to communicate face-to-face. Every time I work with a school and I visit a lunch room, every student…and I mean EVERY student is head down in their phone! The problem is that technology is only moving forward…not backwards.

So teaching our students nonverbal communication will become increasingly more important as time goes on.

Today on the show, I break down the different categories of nonverbal communication including our posture, our hand gestures, facial expressions and even vocal inflection. These nonverbal cues actually make up for 93% of our total communication while only 7% is the words we choose to say! This is why sometimes a student will be saying something and it may seem they are uninterested, or sarcastic.

Check out today’s episode to learn how to teach your students nonverbal communication skills.
